Cheddar Gorge and Caves

23 May 2014

CavesAttracting approximately 500,000 visitors per year, the Gorge is home to the Cheddar show caves where Britain’s oldest complete human skeleton, known as “Cheddar Man” was found in 1903. It was estimated that the remains were over 9,000 years old and the story is told as part of a tour of Gough’s Cave.

With ticket prices starting at just £18.95 for Adults and £12.50 for Children (5-15 yrs) and Under 5’s admitted for free*, the Gorge offers access to a number of exciting experiences for the whole family, these include:

Gough’s Cave – A cavern that hosts impressive stalactites which was once the home to Cheddar Man;

Cox’s Cave – A beautiful grotto full of calcite sculptures, dancing fountains and mirror pools – a real “must-see”;

The Crystal Quest – An exciting voyage of fantasy which takes the children to witness the continuing battle between good and evil, dragons and elves, heroes and demons – a real family adventure!

The Lookout Tower – a massive 274 steps take you to the top of the tower, where you can gain an amazing 360 view of what can be said are some of the most beautiful sights in Britain. (It should be noted that unfortunately, there is no access for wheelchair users to the Tower).

Cliff Top Gorge Walk – Make sure you have your walking boots on as this 3 mile walk can be very muddy and rocky underfoot but promises to take you through to the highest point overlooking Horseshoe Bend, passing The Pinnacles down to Black Rock Gate.

Gorge Open-Top Bus Tour – Another more leisurely way to take in the breathtaking views of the Gorge, and learn some interesting facts along the way. The tour does not operate from November through to January and doesn’t operate when it’s raining!

For a fun filled day outdoors, The Cheddar Gorge and Caves are certainly an exciting and educational experience that the family will enjoy!

Boathouse Bulletin – MAY

13 May 2014

May gets underway with a Bank Holiday Weekend featuring two brand new acts to Lakeside. Catch TWISTED TIARAS – a slightly naughty female comedy duo and then on Sunday night, a fantastic guitar duo when FAST COMPANY play and sing live.

In the middle of the month we have some favourites from last year and MAT ROBERTS pays us another visit with his acoustic guitar set where he plays whatever you suggest.

The last week of the month has another Bank Holiday weekend and is also the Whitsun half term week when we will run a full programme of additional activities for the kids. Over this weekend you can see another new name BALLOONATIC – he is a comedy balloon creator but forget dogs and swords – he makes some awesome models with music and comedy.

On Sunday 25th, the brilliant 3 piece band 60’s EXPLOSION will be back to play live and then on the final Saturday, you can hear THE BEDFORD COLLECTIVE who are three brilliant musicians playing a whole mixture of favourites from all decades.

Plus two chances to play our brand new MUSIC BINGO game!
