From 23rd October through to the 1st November, The Longleat Halloween Spooktacular is a haunted scare fest that it will make even the most acclimatised Halloween fan quake in their boots.
Just over an hours drive away from Lakeside, in Warminster, Longleat House was originally a stately home, which was opened to the public in April 1949. Built in 1568, it stands on 900 acres of Capability Brown landscaped grounds, and is considered to be a prime British example of Elizabethan architecture.
During the Spooktacular, Longleat House transforms and opens it’s doors to those brave enough to explore it’s hidden secrets and take a tour around the haunted rooms looking for ghosts and ghouls.
In the grounds of Longleat, there is a popular Safari & Adventure park where there is a Skeleton Maze designed to spook, a Witches Coven, Ghost Train and Dracula’s Bat Cave – home to hundreds of free-flying Egyptian fruit bats! While the idea of the bats may frighten you, rest assured that whilst they are all around you, they have special senses which prevent them from flying into you – so let them surround and scare you, safe in the knowledge that no-one will get harmed – you or the bats!
‘Nasty but Nice’ shows get you up close and personal with all kinds of creepy crawlies such as spiders and scorpions and the ‘Trick or Treat Trail’ is ideal for those of you who are looking for a little light-hearted fun after encountering all the things that go bump in the night.
The Spooktacular opens at 10am daily. On Saturday 23rd it closes at 5pm, from the 24th – 28th it closes at 6pm and for Halloween Weekend (29th – 31st October) the ghostly goings on continue through to 7pm. Ghost Tours are conducted daily during the Spooktacular, and take place (if you dare) at 12:30pm, 2:30pm, 3:30pm and 4:30pm. Each Tour is limited to 10 people and prices start at £7.50 each. (Spooky Face Painting is available for £2.00).
Other than the Ghost Tour and Face Painting, the rest of the Spooktacular experience is included in the ticket price. If you book online, you get a discount of up to 15%, with Children (3-14yrs) costing £20.35, Adults (15-59yrs) at £28.00, and those over 60 costing £22.05.
