Boathouse Bulletin – August

29 July 2016

The School Holidays are in full swing here at Lakeside, and the Park is busier than ever – so we’ve added even more new acts to the Boathouse line-up, with performances four times a week throughout August!

Starting off the shenanigans is SAM WREY, a fun, hugely talented male vocalist who makes his debut with us on the 2nd August. On Friday 12th, we welcome KARL LEWIS (who was last here as ALMOST OLLY) who has broadened his horizons and will be singing hits across the decades to get you all up and dancing!

Boathouse Residents SAM DE-LA HAYE, BEAVER and MATT SUMMER all make a very welcome return, and over the Bank Holiday weekend with have a Trio of Tributes with ELLIE on the 26th, FOREVER ROD on the 27th and MATERIAL GIRL on the 28th who will be belting out the hits of Ellie Goulding, Rod Stewart and Madonna – perfect pop performances for everyone to enjoy!

See the whole list for August below. We can’t wait to welcome you the The Boathouse this August…

Bristol – A great day out for all the family

04 July 2016

bristol-balloon-fiestaIt’s summer (or so we are told), and during the holidays there is so much to do and explore as a family near Lakeside that it’s hard to fit it all in during your stay.

One thing we can highly recommend though is a day trip to Bristol – and it’s only a 45 min drive away!

For a fun family day out in Bristol, here are our top picks for great things to do and see.

Animal Magic

Why not get to grips with nature and visit some of the countries most magnificent zoos and animal attractions!

Bristol Zoo Gardens is the fifth oldest zoo in the world, covers twelve acres and offers more than 400 species of exotic and endangered animals, whilst The Wild Place Project is Bristol’s most recent animal attraction with a pack of wolves, lemurs, cheetahs, and wallabies to name just a few of its inhabitants. The Bristol Aquarium boasts a coral sea, underwater tunnel, and urban jungle and is home to thousands of species of fish plus sharks and stingrays!

Then there are places like Windmill Hill City Farm which brings country living right into the city, or Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm, a 100-acre arm just 6 miles west of the City Centre.

The Marvels of Technology

The At-Bristol Science Centre has numerous special activities taking place all the time. Learn about anatomy and robots, and visit the UK’s first 3D Planetarium – an immersive experience with full-surround sound and breath-taking sights.

Nautical Niceties

Brunel’s SS Great Britain – the ship that changed the world – can be visited daily from 10:00am to 5:30pm at the Great Western Dockyard. This amazing ship was the largest vessel ever when it was launched in 1843.

Relax in the City

Queen Square, located in the heart of Bristol is a Georgian park built more than 400 years ago. It’s a tranquil refuge from the outside world and part of the Bristol City Centre Nature Trail.

Play Time

Hengrove Play Park is a ‘wheels park’, where skateboarders, rollerbladers and BMX riders can enjoy their thrills and practice their tricks. There is also a wildlife area and some great spots for a picnic.

Flying High

The International Bristol Balloon Fiesta takes place this year between the 11th and 14th of August at Ashton Court Estate – as it has since 1979. It’s one of the largest hot air balloon events in Europe and is truly a wonderful spectacle to behold.
