Top Tips for Fishing at Lakeside

08 May 2017

Lakeside fishing tipsLakeside is the perfect holiday destination for the discerning angler. With your own 3-acre natural water fishing lake on-site and a wide variety of natural, commercial and seawater fishing possibilities nearby, you’ll never be starved for choice… or fish.

For New and Aspiring Anglers

It’s always important to adapt to your surroundings when fishing, different swims and different fish all need a different approach and so here are our top beginner’s tips for fishing at Lakeside this Spring!

Have your Rod Licence!

Even though our private lake is for the exclusive use of those staying with us, you will still need a rod licence to fish. Make sure you have your licence with you when you come to stay with us to avoid disappointment! Rod licenses are available to buy from the gov.uk website.

Lakeside fishingFish Safely and Responsibly

We know you’re eager to get down to fishing but bear with us. It’s important to make sure you’re taken care of before you start going after the Carp, Roach, Rudd, Bream, Tench, Pike and Perch found in our lake. Make sure you dress for the weather. If it’s a sunny day, bring sunscreen, a hat and a good pair of sunglasses, and stock up on plenty of drinking water too! If it’s a colder day we recommend you wrap up warm and bring a flask of hot tea! If you’re fishing with children, make sure they’re supervised at all times to avoid any accidents, especially when handling hooks.

Stock up on Bait

We’re lucky enough to be just half a mile away from the Burnham-on-Sea Angling Centre and a few miles from Thyers Fishing Tackle in Highbridge. So be sure to pop in and stock up on all the bait, boilies and other accessories you need to make your days of fishing the best they can be.

Best for Bream

Lakeside’s fishing lake has a wide range of species living in its waters, but we have an especially high number of Bream. For the best chance of catching Bream, we recommend a swimfeeder rig stuffed with groundbait and a sweetcorn hookbait. The Bream love it! Casting to the far bank is also a great way to increase your chances of a bite.

The Art of Carp

Carp are another favourite at the Lakeside fishing lake. A selection of boilies on hair rigs fished from one of the central “island” swims to the far bank works best. We also hear our carp are especially fond of dog biscuits.

Relax

If you’ve ever fished before, you’ll know that fishing is a game of patience and skill, especially on a natural water lake where the fish are more discerning than those at commercial fisheries. Take time to enjoy yourself and relax in the lovely surroundings of Lakeside and make it an experience to remember.

Go Exploring

Needless to say, we love having you fish on Lakeside, but it’s hard for us not to be excited about all the fishing possibilities nearby! There are a number of different fishing locations around Lakeside suitable for a variety of fishing abilities and preferences. Local spots include the Apex Leisure & Wildlife Park, Emerald Pool and the Cheddar Reservoir. You can find a complete list of local fishing spots on the Lakeside website’s Fishing page – there’s something for every angler!

On-going major investment at Lakeside Holiday Park to make your caravan holiday in Somerset even better in 2016!

23 February 2016

new_caravans_at_lakesideAt Lakeside Holiday Park, we are continually striving to make your holiday experience even better year after year. During this current closed-season period, we have invested over half a million pounds into making improvements, expanding facilities and adding new holiday homes, to help make your 2016 holiday one to remember!new_mulberry_caravan_lounge_at_lakeside

New Caravans
There are 8 brand new Puffin Plus letting fleet caravans and 5, top of the range Osprey 6 & 8 berth caravans being added to our range of accommodation this year. The Osprey vans have gas fired central heating and double glazing while the Puffin Plus vans have background heating and double glazing as standard.

Part of the major investment programme at Lakeside this winter is one especially for the kids! We have an exciting new, state of the art, under 10’s Play Area being installed just a few paces from the ‘Sail Loft’ and ‘The Boathouse’.

New apparatus includes:

  • HUGE nautical themed abstract multi-play unit
  • Merga Tripod group swing
  • Sherwood Play Boat – including a large sand pit inside the hull ‘cargo’ area
  • Roxy Jeep 4-seater spring ride on
  • Modern version of the traditional See-Saw
  • Mekkar twirl roundabout
  • 8-seater circular table & seating units

All of the play apparatus is created using a mix of durable materials and fabricated to the highest standards, and the table / seating units are wooden and made here in the UK.

The Play Area is being relocated next to the swimming pool terraces and replaces 4 caravans. In return, we have created 5 new caravan bases where the old Play Area was – sounds simple but there’s a significant amount of work that goes into achieving this – most of which is underground and out of sight.

Once finished, the brand new Play Area will be finished off with security fencing, turfing and specialised rubber matting for kids to bounce on! All we need now is for it to stop raining so we can have it finished and up and running in next to no time.

The Lakeside Beer Garden
We are in the process of adding a new outside beer garden and seating area – perfect for mums and dads to relax while keeping one eye on the kids having fun.

The total value of what we’ve put into the new Play Area and Beer Garden is upwards of £200K, and it’s definitely something pretty special!

We look forward to welcoming you to Lakeside over the summer season, and we hope you enjoy all the new additions.
