We’ve picked out some of the top family activities to help make this summer one you’ll all remember. There’s something for everyone – mum, dad and the kids!

Somerset has something for the whole family! We’ve picked out some of the top family and kids activities to help make this summer one you’ll all remember

The beaches at Burnham-on-Sea and Weston-super-Mare are a must for the classic south-west coast beach experience. The award winning beaches at Burnham offer a relaxed and traditional beach experience even down to the donkey rides! During the summer months, the main beach offers children’s entertainment and is a great place to relax and go for a paddle in the summer sun.

For somewhere a little more energetic, the beach at Weston-super-Mare is ranked among the Daily Mail’s top 50 beaches in the UK and comes with all the modern additions. This golden sand beach attracts tens of thousands of holidaymakers who flock to Weston every year to experience the myriad of attractions on offer. These include open-air beach concerts, beach races and sand sculpture festivals. Be sure not to miss the impressive Weston Grand Pier with its indoor Robo-Coaster, arcade and more.

Just north of the main Burnham beach you’ll find Brean Leisure Park, a leisure complex with something for everyone, young and old. Featuring an onsite rollercoaster park with over 40 rides, a water park with pools, slides and water jets, and Brean Play – the largest indoor play area in the region. Brean Leisure Park has something for kids (and adults) of all ages!

Calling all explorers – why not get your adventure gear together and head over to Wookey Hole Caves. Wookey Hole gives you the chance to explore the largest natural limestone cave system in the UK – but that’s not all. There’s also a 4D cinema, an indoor play area, mirror maze and more to enjoy. New for 2017 is the freshly opened Chamber 20 – a previously inaccessible cavern in the Mendip Hills that is now open to daring explorers thanks to a newly blasted tunnel.

There’s something for the thrill seekers too! AJ’s Karting in Weston-super-Mare is one of the few karting venues that lets children under 16 get in on the racing fun (as long as they are over 4ft 3in) thanks to their special junior carts. AJ’s has an exciting track to challenge everyone from experienced racers to first time drivers.

After all this excitement, you might feel the need to relax a little, so head to Apex Leisure Park to wind down. Straddling Burnham-on-Sea and Highbridge, Apex offers beautiful scenery and an outdoor play area and skate park for the kids. Entry to the park is free – as is the car park – making Apex Leisure Park a great place for a relaxing walk or a family picnic.

With all of these great days out available, Somerset is a great venue for your family summer holiday. With its central location in Burnham-on-Sea, family friendly Lakeside Holiday Park is the perfect central hub to experience all of the fantastic activities on offer in the area.
